James is from a sheep farming family on the Southern Tablelands of NSW where his passion for agriculture began. After school he worked for Paspaley Pearls in the Northern Territory as a deckhand before studying Agricultural Economics at the University of Sydney. Since 2016 James has run a small prime lamb operation and opportunistically traded livestock with his younger brother on their family farm.
Whilst he was studying, James founded a finance company which aimed to increase investment in the agricultural sector, particularly early stage technology companies. They did exactly that for their first client before the company was sold in early 2020.
James is most interested in the sheep industry, particularly the rise of lamb feedlotting and how that will change farm businesses. Outside of work James is a die-hard rugby union fan who also enjoys cricket and skiing. He hopes to one day be further involved in the family farm and help expand their operations.
